A dive master is an instructor who leads organized or recreational dives. Dive master is the standard level for those who are responsible for guiding or supervising divers. Description of the job for a diving master
What is the job description of a dive master? A variety of tasks are involved, such as supervising customers, reviewing the risks of diving and delivering briefings to guide groups through a dive. However, a job description for a dive master can be much more varied. Divers can be responsible in many different areas of the dive shop, such as general operation and social presence.
Diving instructors teach and supervise scuba techniques in swimming pools or open water. They can also supervise and plan non-training activities such as navigation exercises. Open water dive instructors can lead students on the surface and navigation portions of the dives. A dive instructor's job may include the supervision of certified divers during a scuba certification course. Diving instructors' legal responsibility varies from one country to the next. A waiver can be signed by a dive instructor to exempt them from legal liability in certain countries.
Certification requirements
A course is required to become a competent Divemaster. Divemaster courses cover topics like managing divers, managing dive sites and finding the flow. The minimum number of dives candidates need to have completed must be at least 60. Divemasters are able to assist new divers in their theory and skills through teaching them.
Dive masters have to take courses in addition. They also need to pass a two-part exam. Each part must be scored at least 75% to pass the exam. For the exam, candidates will use the PADI Instructor Manual and the eRDPML. Students also need to prepare an emergency assistance plan and complete five waterskills exercises. At least fifteen points must be combined. After completing the course, divemasters must receive certification.
Internship requirement
You have many internship options for becoming a Divemaster. You can either assist with PADI Courses or help to set up dive spots, depending on your preference. Skill circuits may also require you to help. The internship will follow a specific pattern. A typical internship will last for eight weeks. During this period, you may be able to become an Advanced Open Water Diver. After that, you can become a Dive Guide or Divemaster after four to six weeks of training.
Additionally to the paid internships you might be eligible for a free internship as a Divemaster. Although it is not the most ideal option, you will be able to spend a lot of time studying and getting advice from a divemaster.
