Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island is home to some excellent offshore dive sites. To get to these dive spots, visitors can board a visiting vessel. These areas are great for photography and hunting, as they are usually very rocky. These areas are home to healthy kelp and purple hydro coral. Moreover, the visibility here is excellent for Southern California waters.

You can also go snorkeling or kayaking on the island. If it is dry, tent camping can be done. You can also find a large number of pinnipeds living on the island. These include harbor seals (northern elephant seals) and California sealions. Visitors can spot these animals in the rocky areas around the sea lion rookery, which are located at a number of overlooks on the island.

Anacapa Island

There is a wide variety of marine life on Anacapa Island. The area is home to one of the first Marine Protected Areas in the United States. The region offers diving that is not only great for beginners but also for seasoned divers. The waters around the island have a moderately warm temperature, which makes them ideal for wetsuit diving. In the fall and late summer, surface temperatures can reach 70 degrees F (21 degrees Celsius). In the winter, temperatures can plummet to 50°F (10°C). It is recommended to use a 7mm wetsuit. These months are when visibility is generally at least 100 feet (30M).

You can reach Anacapa by diving charter boats as well as the Island Packers. You will find many dive sites on the island, including a 40-foot tall arch rock. You can also view these sites from the surface of the water using snorkeling gear.
